Our Story

Co-founders: Sarah Demby and Benita Chaplin

In October 2015, Sarah and Benita were a part of the Hand-Up Outreach Ministry, they were participating in community service outreach with the New Beginnings SDA Church passing out personal hygiene packets and Quik Trip gift cards to the homeless in downtown Wichita. Noticing the number of children that were in the park prompted a conversation about finding a way to help less fortunate children. They talked about collecting coats and shoes to take to local elementary schools. Here and there the subject came up, but they didn’t pursue it.

After retiring  June 2017, Benita was tossing around the idea of going into business OR helping children in crisis. Her love for children outweighed pursing a business endeavor.  She called Sarah and without hesitation she said yes. They started praying over a name and God gave them “The T.O.U.C.H. Closet, Inc.” (Touching Others Until Change Happens). Benita was so excited she told everyone she talked to about their plans. During a conversation with Michelle Blount, she mentioned The T.O.U.C.H. Closet, Inc., she called Benita back a couple of days later and said she would love to be a part of it. The three of them put their heads together tossing around ideas, solicited ideas from their adult children and here we are today.

They are certain this is God’s will because everything is coming together without a hitch!
